4 Acoustic Guitar Beginner Tips

July 25th, 2009
Acoustic Guitar

Acoustic Guitar

If you just want to start to play Acoustic Guitar here are some tips every beginner should know.

this tips will help you to avoid lots of common problems when it comes to play and take care of your Acoustic Guitar.

Give Picks a Chance: Fingernails are great is you play in your room for yourself, but when it comes to jam with other people you will need to learn how to play with a pick.

Picks are a must when it comes to play with other people because you need to sound louder.

This may mean two different techniques, since fingerpicks, flatpicks, and no picks all require different picking hand positions. It’s worth it, though, because there’s nothing like playing music with other people.

Buy a Capo: Capos are very useful if you learned a song in G and need to sing it in B Flat. Capos also let you play your set list in a different position of the neck of your guitar, remember that sounding different is great.

Avoid Cracks and Warps: Acoustic guitars are very sensitive and they can get cracks or warp easily.

If you expose your guitar to direct sunlight or hot dry heated air it will crack, buy a humidifier to avoid this problems.

Size Matters: Buy a comfortable guitar, this is very important. “. There are good-sounding instruments of all sizes. If your guitar is too big, your fingers won’t be able to reach across the fingerboard with any strength; your right shoulder will get sore from reaching your arm across the body; you’ll be wrestling the wood box instead of playing it.

And don’t be fooled by classical guitars with small bodies but wide necks. Be comfortable; this is fun!

Hope this Tips help you in your guitar journey, if you want to read more about you can sign up for some free acoustic guitar lessons in the next link:

Learn How to Play Lead Guitar Techniques

July 23rd, 2009
Learn Lead Guitar

Lead Guitar

Lead Guitar Players use to take all the glory and that’s because they have a bag of tricks that sound great and keep the audience entertained.

If you have been playing the guitar for some time and want to be a Lead Guitarist here are some techniques that will help you a lot.

Some of this techniques are easy and just need some practice to master and add a lot of quality to your sound.

Effect Pedals and Equipment

Effect pedals can add depth and new textures to your sound, just avoid use them to cover up mistakes or poor playing.

Buy all the pedals you want, but be tasteful when using them, use Effect Pedals to improve your sound, not to destroy it.

Whammy Bar and Bendings

One of the most common technique for Lead Guitar Players is to manipulate the pitch and tone of the notes by Bending Strings or with a Whammy Bar, also known as tremolo.

String bending is accomplished by pushing up the string when you play a note, many guitar players effectively play a note, then bend the same note up as much as two or two and a half steps.

If you use a Floyd Rose you can change the string tension with the bar and lower or increase the pitch a lot, you can also play Dive Bombs with Floyd Rose bridges.

Pinched Harmonics

We talked about how to play pinch harmonics in this article… How to Play Pinch Harmonics.

This effect requires some practice to master and it can be a little difficult to master at first.

Many lead guitar players from different playing styles such as Billy Gibbons, Dimebag Darrell and Steve Vai use Pinch Harmonics a lot to make their sound more interesting.

kid playing guitar

“How to teach to play guitar to children?” Is a question that a lot of guitar teachers and parents ask to themselves.

To teach guitar to children you need to take a different approach than with adults because kids just want fun and instant gratification.

Here are some tips that will help you to teach how to play guitar to children:

1- Kids don’t want to learn theory, they want to play tunes. Teach kids about chords with easy songs that just need 3 or 4 chords.

2- If the full chord shapes are too much for small hands then four string versions of the chords of G em C and D can be substituted in the early stages until dexterity and reach improves.

3- A child won’t pay attention to boring lessons, avoid repetitive guitar exercises. If you just teach boring stuff to a kid, he can even quit guitar because of that.

4- If you are a parent and your child wants to learn how to play guitar but you don’t have the time or money to take your kid to guitar lessons with a guitar teach you can always look for online guitar lessons, there are awesome online guitar courses for kids in today’s market.

How to Find a Great Guitar Teacher

July 17th, 2009

guitar teacher

If you want to learn how to play guitar with a guitar teacher keep in mind to choose a good teacher, it’s not all about how your guitar teacher plays, it’s about how he teaches.

I knew great guitar players who didn’t know how to teach guitar, they are great guitar players but you can’t learn anything from them.

There are teachers who just gives you a lot of boring exercises and they let you on your own, that’s not teaching… Great guitar teachers will guide you preparing exercises for your needs.

When i started to play guitar i sucked at tempo and none of my previous teachers corrected that but then my first “real” guitar teacher who still being a good friend of mine prepared fun exercises to improve my tempo skills and believe me, i learned in a few classes what i couldn’t master with months and months with bad guitar teachers.

If you’re just starting to learn how to play guitar ask your friends and people who you know that play guitar about which teacher helped them most, don’t lose time and money with bad guitar teachers!

That kind of teachers will just discourage you because you may think that you are the problem, don’t let somebody discourage you and make you lose time… find someone who will encourage to improve your skills and will guide your through your guitar learning journey.

Maybe you’re not looking for a teacher and want to learn guitar by yourself, then i will recommend you to read our article about Online Guitar Lessons.

Online Guitar Course for Children

Online Guitar Course for Children

If you are a parent and your kid wants to learn how to play guitar but you don’t have the time or you don’t know how to play keep reading this article.

Here I will show you the best ways to learn how to play guitar for a kid and answer some of the most common questions parents do.

Whats the Best Age to Learn How to Play Guitar?

I started to play guitar when i was 16 years old and some of my friends started to play at a really early age, i would suggest to start playing guitar at age 10 or 12 but the best age to start is when your children feels the desire to start playing.

Some great guitar players started to play when they were almost babies and other guitar players that i admire like Glenn Tipton started to play when they were 20 years old or more!

So basically start to play when you feel the desire to do it, if your children wants to start right now, let him go for it.
And if you are the parent and want to learn too, its better to go together!

Music and Arts in general are awesome to share great moments, make news friends and have a lot of fun!

Would Guitar Lessons make my Children a Worst Student?

NOT AT ALL! Kids who are in contact with music and arts use to be better students than kids who are not.

Here are 3 Great Reasons of Why your Children should Learn How to Play guitar:

1- Kids who play guitar or any other musical instrument use to have more general knowledge than kids who are not really close to music and arts.

Being in contact with music and arts open your kid’s mind.

2- Playing music helps your children to develop lots of skills that will help him a lot during all his life like perseverance and discipline because you can’t become a good musician over night.

Playing guitar helped me to set goals for myself and to persevere until i achieve them, when you want to learn how to play a song you have to play it over and over again, correct what you are doing wrong, learn when to stop to improve some skills and back to practice until you master it… being successful in life looks a lot like learning how to play a hard song.

3- The most awesome thing about playing guitar is jam with other people, your children will make a lot of friends who will share the same passion for music than him and some of those friendships will last for life.

I made most of my best friends from music, playing together, sharing musical knowledge, going to concerts, etc.

How Can my Children Learn How to Play Guitar?

There are lots of options in today’s market, some of the best options are Personal Guitar Teachers and Online Guitar Lessons.

If you have a large budget i would suggest you to pay lessons with a personal guitar teacher but if your budget is limited you another great option thanks to the internet, Online Guitar Lessons.

For the same price than just a few hours with a guitar teacher you can have online video lessons for more than a year!

The product that i recommend is called Jamorama and its a complete guitar learning system that consist in 150 step by step videos, audio and additional guitar software (this software comes for free!)

You can read a complete Jamorama Online Guitar Course here: Jamorama Guitar Lessons Review.

It only costs $39.95 and it worth like a whole year of guitar lessons!
